EXPERIENCE ART MENTORING

What's different about learning at Venice Arts? You get to work closely with professional artists in small classes. You have the freedom to dream–up your own projects and learn the skills needed to make them a reality. Your work is exhibited at the Venice Arts Gallery and other community sites.

If you are 10 to 18, you can learn photography, digital arts, and media arts using our state–of–the–art equipment. If you are 6 to 9, you can participate in Art Discovery and explore your creativity.

Ready to challenge yourself? If you are committed to growing as an artist, you may apply to become a Youth Art Mentor or to join our Advanced Studies program that includes advanced workshops and special exhibits, paid Art Internships at Venice Arts, and internships with business members of the Venice Media District.

If you develop your talents as a photographer you may be selected to work on our Social Art Initiatives—special local, national, or international photo documentary projects that explore community and social justice issues. Or, you might work with professional photographers on client projects through our Photo Opportunities (Photo Opps) program. Photo Opps clients have included Fleischman Hilliard, the Venice Family Clinic, the Chaka Khan Foundation, Children’s Institute International, and the California Community Foundation.

WANT TO JOIN US?

Workshops are held year–round at Venice Arts and at schools, parks, and public housing developments City–wide through our ArtPartners' program. Our programs are free, or a reasonable fee, and are open to all low–income youth in Los Angeles and all Venice City youth, regardless of income.

PROGRAM IMPACTS

As a student at Venice Arts, you will have regular opportunities to tell us what you think about our programs, your artist–mentors, and your arts learning. In 2004-2005 we interviewed 100 youth and found, among other things that:

›› 100% of youth report learning new art skills
›› 92% are satisfied with the youth–mentor relationship
›› 71% show a strong sense of community
›› 76% of youth show strong self–efficacy
