To help protect wildlife, Caroff is donating a portion of the proceeds from sales of his images to conservation groups.

Opens with Artist's Reception on Saturday, October 6th, 6-9pm

GATES OF VENICE, CA

Susan Rennie

Following a detailed map, Susan visited every street in Venice to document their gates. Venetians old and new have erected a dazzling bricolage of gateways to their properties, a miscellany that mirrors all of the characteristics of Venice itself: artistic, eccentric, inventive, charming, off-beat, whimsical, artful. The show includes 40 of Susan's favorite gates.

Works on Paper

Reception Saturday, January 29, 2005  6pm-8pm
Open through February 27, 2005

With the exciting world of sport as my setting, I transform the bodies I portray into heroic figures. My images are mostly drawn from photographs and firsthand observations of athletic experiences. The artwork begins with the motivation to capture a gesture, an action that will recreate a moment or the grace of an effort. Notes and sketches fill preparatory pads of acetate or tracing paper. Then I prepare the environment: mixing colors, testing a needed tone, narrowing down the process. I work with printing ink, solvent, palette knives and brushes to enhance the feeling of a movement in a variety of media: paper, glass, linoleum and screen. By changing the ingredients or treatment, I am able to recreate images with a continuously evolving examination of the subject. While the photographic foundation is apparent and the subject recognizable, the printing transforms the image. The final print reveals its ambiguous classification: will it be a monotype, a mixed media or a future serigraph?
