May 3rd, from 12-2pm marks the opening of the culminating exhibit from our winter/spring workshop cycle and a celebration of our move to our new Gallery/workshop space at 1702 Lincoln Boulevard. Double the size of our current space on Lincoln, we'll now be able to serve more youth through free programs in photography, filmmaking, and digital arts, as well as continue to host exhibits of work by artists—both young and established—at our Gallery.
The Venice Arts Gallery remains a beautiful, professional gallery space on Lincoln Boulevard, a main thoroughfare in Venice, California. Believed to be the first gallery of its kind in the area that features innovative work by young and emerging artists, it also houses a black-and-white darkroom, state-of-the-art digital lab and classrooms.
We opened our first Gallery, at another location, in July 2004 with an exhibit titled Greatest Hits: 15 Years of Outstanding Photography by Young Artists. It featured black-and-white and color photography by local, Los Angeles-area youth; Native American kids from several reservations; and homeless children from the Washington, D.C. area. Images included compelling portraits of rural townships, burning sugar cane, and AIDS orphans in South Africa; explorations of female identity by teenage girls from L.A., Detroit and 2 southern towns; and recent portraits of the people and places on Venice’s Lincoln Boulevard.
Venice Arts hosts high caliber work by young artists - both participants of Venice Arts’ programs, as well as others - each year. In addition, Venice Arts serves as a community gallery.
