LEAD FILMMAKER


This part–time position works under the Director of Education to fulfill the following primary roles and responsibilities:


1. Develop the ongoing film (digital video) program

2. Teach and work with youth to prepare for screenings/exhibitions

3. Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers

4. Assure maintenance of film archive

Qualifications: Must be a filmmaker who is also an experienced film educator; strong preference for experience teaching youth in a community–based setting. Must have background in, and commitment to, the documentary method and be able to demonstrate how documentary and digital storytelling concepts can be integrated into workshops for youth. Demonstrated ability to lead volunteer artists, required. High level of proficiency with technology, a range of arts/media software applications, required. Expertise in new/interactive media content development and delivery strongly preferred.

Salary and benefits: Starts at $20 per hour; vacation and sick after successful completion of 90-day period. Work week variable, although after–school hours/Saturdays required. Schedule generally Wed–Sat during workshop cycles; Tues–Friday between cycles.

GRANT WRITER

This part–time position works under the Development Coordinator.  The ideal candidate will be an individual with 2 years of experience and a proven track record of securing grants from foundations, corporations and government agencies.

Specific areas of emphasis include:

1) Conduct the research, preparation, and writing of foundation, corporate and government grant proposals.

2) Handle aspects of grant administration and reporting.

3) Maintain an accurate grants calendar, working with Development Coordinator.

4) Work with staff to gather client and organizational statistics for use in grants.

The individual may also assist with other development-related projects, including database management.

Additional Qualifications:

Attributes of the ideal candidate will include-

1) Proven success in writing grants and cultivating multi-year awards from foundations, corporations and government agencies.

2) Experience working as a team player.

3) Entrepreneurial, resourceful and flexible to work in a hands-on environment with limited resources.

4) Have strong writing skills and an ability to work independently.

5) Ability to multi-task and manage multiple deadlines.

6) Have a genuine interest in the agency’s mission, and have the ability to articulate this mission and role to others.

7) An advanced degree or certificate in grant writing or fund raising is desirable.

8) Be computer literate 

9) File Maker Pro a plus

Salary: 20 hrs per week, $18-20 per hour

SUMMER INTERN: INSTITUTE FOR PHOTOGRAPHIC EMPWERMENT

Internship Description: This is a ten–week, full–time (40 hours per week) position with the Venice Arts/USC Institute for Photographic Empowerment (IPE). The pay is $3,500 for the summer ($350 per week). The work week will be Monday–Friday.  The position is scheduled to start in early June and end in August.

The intern’s duties will include the creation of an Archives Handbook for participant produced documentary projects to be included in IPE’s archives, prepare Venice Arts’ image collection for archiving purposes, maintain and expand IPE’s web presence, help moderate interactive web forums, and respond to public interest and inquiries about IPE.

Qualifications: As required by the funder, candidates for this position must be members of ethnic minority groups not generally represented in the arts (i.e., African American, Asian, Pacific Islander, Latino, etc.). She or he also must be in an undergraduate program at a University based in Los Angeles County, or must reside in Los Angeles County. Candidate must not be graduating from college prior to December of 2009.

The ideal intern is a photography student comfortable with digital image production.  Expertise in digital photo manipulation using Photoshop, understanding of website maintenance, and an interest in research is required. She or he should be well organized, motivated, detail-oriented, and able to communicate well with others.  Experience in digital archives preferred.  An interest in documentary photography preferred.
